Scheduled Uncertainty.

10/2/10

Big news! One of my major complaints running this website so far is that debian is just a massive pain in the ass, nothing runs right out of the box, and half of the stuff I try to use just doesn't run right ever. There's all sorts of annoying politics involved but basically the debian crew thinks they're smarter than the people who make the programs, so they make the programs run differently. Anyways, I'm currently setting up a new server that doesn't use debian, there's a bit of a learning curve and about eight major programs to configure mostly from scratch, then of course I have to move all the files and eventually relocate several computers, it's going to be a long and bumpy process but by this time next year we'll be back to not doing anything different.

Long story short, the sites are going to be unreliable for a while, not that anyone cares.

Some long time ago there was a brief poweroutage in my datacenter, aka, the other wall of my room, this managed do do a number of annoying things, most notibly turning off my server, and turning off my media center. The later I fixed rather quickly as it's simple, but I only got around to turning the surver back on like last week. And guess what, it's going down again. Thanks to some really awesome clearence at my local hypermarket I've obtained a modest UPS for only 20$, I'll be installing it tomorrow some time.

this should foul the plans of 98% of the poweroutages we have, which are really more like really strong brownouts, then maybe I'll get around to developing this site further

That last thing

One of the last major things to fix on the site is the navigation bar at the top, as you can see I've changed it a bit, this is a pretty big change so for the moment it doesn't work at all; This shouldn't effect you much but just so you know, should be fixed soon enough, I'd say tomorrow but chances are I'll laz' out of it

Scheduled Downtime

So, what's up, oddly a lot, archive is 'done', I think. Anyways, I like it right now so I probably shouldn't screw with it.
In other news I need to do some work on the electrical system in my room, this will involve shutting off power to the circuit the server is on so it'll be down for a few hours at some point in the next few days
Don't worry about it too much

Success!

As mentioned previously and below I have decided not to put any extra effort into making this site work in IE, but if you're viewing this site in Firefox or Chrome (Yes mom, you have chrome installed) it should look real perty
It is not however done, of the very few things I haven't changed are the navigation buttons up top, which as you can see don't really fit in anymore
As well the other pages are strangely empty, but progress!

This here is a blog title probably

So it's going to look something like this now.

I've decided that we won't be supporting IE, instead we will be supporting Firefox and Chrome specifically, anything else is just luck.
